Cambridge Bay (pop. 1,766), located on the south shore of Victoria Island, has been a gathering place for Inuit for over 1,000 years. Today, Cambridge Bay is home to the Canadian High Arctic Research Station, a 21st century scientific site. The traditional Inuinnaqtun name for the area, Iqaluktuuttiaq means "good fishing place."
