Dawson City (pop. 2,291) is a National Historic Site and was Yukon's original capital. At the peak of the gold rush in 1898, it was the largest city in western Canada with a population of 40,000. It is located at the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike rivers and hosts several arts and music festivals. This is home to the self-governing Trondëk Hwëchi’in First Nation.
