Believe it or not, this is the scene at a fishing derby. Photographer Dustin Patar took the shot, with the help of a drone, at Nungarut (Bay of Two Rivers) on Baffin Island in April 2024. Fishing derbies are a rite of spring in Nunavut communities, big and small. The competition is friendly but serious. Many residents enter and work hard to catch the biggest fish. The winners take great pride in coming first (though they enjoy the prize money, too).
