Yellowknife is a thirsty town, and the only thing better than beer to quench that is the city’s own beer. When Fletcher and Miranda Stevens began the journey to building The Woodyard, Yellowknife’s first brewpub in decades, the city wouldn’t let them rest until the beer was flowing, and since the beer’s been flowing the city hasn’t let them rest lest the flow stops. The menu is pub food gone fine dining, and they don’t serve any brew a beer aficionado wouldn’t touch—whether its the local selection (IPA, pale ale, nut brown, witbier, among others) or imported craft beers from around the continent. The decor is rustic, a celebration of the Old Town neighbourhood that hosts it. And if you want a seat, get there early. The city’s embraced it with such vigour that Fletcher might have to occasionally remind them it’s his bar and not theirs.
