Qapik Attagutsiak’s home is heated and lit only by her qulliq (oil lamp). She has a house—with power, heat and water—but would rather stay in this out-building, which reminds her of the qarmaq (sod houses) of yesteryear. She turned 96 last month, making her the eldest elder in Arctic Bay.
