ELLESMERE ISLAND, NUNAVUT: In most places, 4 a.m. is a pretty sedate time of day. But not on Ellesmere Island in the summertime. Fred Lemire was walking back to his camp when this muskox ran past him and down a valley. Lemire was able to snap a couple of photos before it disappeared behind a hill. “All my previous sightings of running muskoxen were followed by wolves, so I made sure to stay and check for wolves,” he says. “No luck this time.”
